Reportage: CEDEO

The brief : « Instead of words indicating which plumbing materials can be found in each aisle, we would like to use photographs which will allow our clients to immediately identify the aisle in which a given product can be found ».

I spent two days in one of the stores taking pictures of the plumbing materials in situ. My work is all about seeing and revealing the beauty in ‘ordinary’ objects. I did not alter the object through special lighting or by re-working the image in photoshop. I believe that beauty is there for all to see; it is just a matter of shifting one’s perception. A wrinkle, a seam or a curve on an aluminum or plastic pipe, grooves on a screw, two plastics together or rubber and metal combined - any object made for a utilitarian purpose in which each centimeter counts, deserves to be highlighted. It is in the details that a manufacturer’s expertise can be found, making one product distinct from any other.

The client decided that in addition to using my photographs for signposting in the aisles, they would also use them in brochures and as large vinyl prints for their windows.
